President and Founder of Quarantine Tutors
Julia Schnipper started Quarantine Tutors one afternoon when she was contemplating the academic effects that the Coronavirus has had on students. She realized that learning asynchronously is very difficult, especially involving learning new topics. For this reason, she decided to talk to some of her school-loving friends from other towns to see if they would like to help. She has a passion for all types of math and science, and she is involved in the science research course at her school. She also loves Spanish, and would love to help with language arts as well!
Vice President and Founder of Quarantine Tutors
Betsy Harris is a 11th grader at Scarsdale High School. She participates on the Speech and Debate Team and in the high school orchestra! Betsy and Julia both represent the UNICEF club at their high school. She volunteers with young children during their after school programs. Betsy loves spending time with her friends and family. Her favorite classes are math and chemistry; however, she is willing to help younger students with enrichment and their school work.
Rebecca Shimony is a dedicated student and loves to help children. Prior to Quarantine Tutors, she tutored students from her own neighborhood. She is excited to see where this adventure takes and help more kids from all over. She is a part of the newspaper club and the debate team at school in addition to being a member of the Huntington Youth Council. Rebecca loves to learn in every subject, but she loves social studies the most! She cannot wait to help you grow as a student!
This is Sydney Diamond. She is a sophomore at Livingston High School. Her favorite subjects are math, English, business, and photography. She loves to spend her summers at sleep away camp. She always has an eye for new businesses, and she works with children at an arts and crafts party place! Also, she is on the board of a young Jewish organization in her town where she coordinates fundraisers.
Julia Harris is in 9th grade at Dunwoody High School in Atlanta, Georgia. At school, she is a part of the interact club and the Student Government Association. Julia loves working with young children and has experience helping other children with school work. She enjoys math and science in school, but would love to help in any way she can!
Alana Zinkin is a 10th grade student who loves learning and teaching science, math, and social studies. She enjoys playing tennis and hanging out with her friends. She is a member of her school's debate team, Amnesty International, and Science Explorers. She has tutored her peers in the past, and is excited to participate in Quarantine Tutors!
Kelly Lim is a rising senior at Francis Lewis High School. She is on the varsity golf team, and is a competitive figure skater outside of school. Her experience with children includes being a camp counselor for kids aged 8-12 and tutoring children from first to fifth grade in various subjects. Although Kelly loves all subjects, her best are math and English. She looks forward to helping students through such difficult times!
Ella Chidsey is currently a 10th grader at Beacon High School located in Manhattan. She enjoys all school subjects, especially math and science. She spends a lot of time hanging out with loved ones, drawing, and taking part in athletic activities. Ella has worked with children at an elementary school this year, and is looking forward to continuing this journey throughout the rest of her high school experience.
Hannah Sharkey goes to Staples High School in Westport, CT. She enjoys doing math and science. Outside of school, she works with many kids of varying ages. She will hopefully continue working with them after high school.
Jane Halpern is a 10th grader at Spanish River High in Florida. She absolutely loves school, especially math. She is a track runner on the varsity team, as well as a dancer. She is happy to help with school work during this difficult time period. She is also a straight-A student that works very hard to keep up her grades. She looks forward to helping out!!
Julia Stehr is a current 10th grader at Montclair High School in Montclair NJ. Julia is a very dedicated, ambitious and eager student. Julia enjoys reading and writing. Julia is very social outgoing and enjoys the company of others! Julia has spent almost a year volunteering at an after school tutoring and childcare program for students in elementary school where she has made lasting bonds with all of the children! Julia has also spent lots of time volunteering at the local soup kitchen in her town. Julia has loved those experiences and looks forward to doing more work like that in the future.
Emma Shield is a tenth grader at Commack High School. She is a dedicated student and a hard worker. Emma loves to learn and help in every subject, but her favorites are math and social studies. At school, she is part of the Future Business Leaders of America club, and she tutors students at the middle school level through the Peer Leadership Program. She is a dancer and plays the piano. At her dance studio, Emma also teaches the younger dancers. She loves spending time with family and friends, and her sleep away camp is her favorite place. She is excited for this opportunity to help other students!
Elizabeth Kakachyan is a rising senior at John F. Kennedy High School in Los Angeles, California. She enjoys playing volleyball, reading, and above all, helping others. Elizabeth has tutored fellow students in the past in subjects such as science, math, and English, but she is open to tutoring in any subject needed. She is very diligent and driven student with a stellar academic record. Additionally, she enjoys volunteering, having over 150 hours in community service. Elizabeth can't wait to meet you!
Shiyin Ge is a rising senior at Notre Dame High School. Her favorite subjects in school are math, science, and French. She is a member of the National Honors Society at school as well as the founder of a social justice committee. Shiyin has been a peer tutor at her school for two years and volunteered with elementary school students throughout the school year. She is excited to continue working with children through Quarantine Tutors.
Pilar Gomes is currently a 10th grader at West End Secondary School located in Manhattan. She enjoys teaching subjects History and English. She spends her time reading, drawing, running and playing soccer. Pilar is new to the tutoring community and is looking forward to meeting new faces and being a part of children’s learning.
Paloma Jourdes is currently a 10th grader at Beacon High School in Manhattan. Her favorite subject is math and she enjoys science. Paloma loves music, hanging out with loved ones and is a part of a swim team. She has babysat for kids from 3-10 and has consistently volunteered at a preschool assisting the teacher with what she may need. Paloma hopes to continue working with kids in the future and is excited to continuing doing it during these difficult times.
Juliana Joyce is in 9th grade at Scarsdale High school. She enjoys baking, horseback riding, doing art projects, and playing volleyball. She is a very dedicated, hardworking, passionate student and has a strong interest in working with children. Additionally, she is a member of her school’s Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital club. Juliana enjoys all subjects in school, and is looking forward to help out with any topics necessary!
Clio Marcus is a 10th grader at Montclair High School. She is a very determined and focused student. Clio loves helping people and has wanted to tutor kids for a long time. She often helps her friends and siblings with their own school work so has experience teaching people in almost every school subject. Clio is very understanding and encouraging and knows how to work well with people. She hopes that she can continue to tutor or do similar work in the future!
Sydney Gaynor is currently a sophomore at Beacon High School in Manhattan. Sydney tutored this year middle school children. Prior to this, she tutored at a school for children with learning disabilities. Sydney works at the Manhattan borough president's office. Sydney’s favorites subjects include English and history. She is a varsity soccer player, and she likes to participate in clubs at school. Sydney hopes to work with kids throughout her high school experience.
This is Avi Gupta. He is a Sophomore at Commack High School. He is an outgoing student who cares about school. In school, he is an officer for his class, on varsity tennis, and is a part of FBLA. Avi loves all subjects in school, but he particularly likes Math and social studies. Avi wants to help kids get though this time, and is excited to be a quarantine tutor!
Nina Pappas is a tenth grader at West End Secondary School located in Manhattan. Prior to her involvement with QT, Nina worked with first and second graders at PS191 and PS199 with reading and writing. Nina’s favorite subjects are math and science. She is a member of the varsity tennis team, and she loves to dance. She takes part in numerous service-based activities and certainly enjoys doing them! Nina looks forward to continuing to work with students throughout her high school years.
Brooke is currently a sophomore at HHH East. Brooke is a dedicated student who loves music along with social sciences. She has previously had the privilege of teaching children ages 1-15 how to swim. She is also a leader in a special needs organization on Long Island. Through this organization, she was able to teach music to children with disabilities. Brooke is super excited to tutor and teach your children!
Macy Margulius is a rising Sophomore at North Atlanta High School in Atlanta, GA. She is involved in the environmental club and Jewish Student Union at her school. She is also an active babysitter for neighbors and friend. Outside of school, Macy is a member of her BBYO chapter's board.
Mohnish Alishala has just graduated from Scripps Ranch High School and he will be attending the University of California, San Diego, studying human biology. During high school, Mohnish was the president of Science Olympiad and the founder of his own environmental conservation club. He loves to play soccer, badminton, go on runs, and pursue photography in his spare time. Mohnish has spent several hundreds of hours volunteering by teaching middle schoolers in Science Olympiad and has even taught at summer schools. He has experience tutoring kids from the elementary to the high school level. He enjoys interacting with kids and hopes to use his skills to help kids during this pandemic.
Tina Liu is a rising senior at Millburn High School in New Jersey. She loves math, history, and painting and is involved in her school’s feminist club and volunteers at the Millburn/Short Hills Historical Society. She also plays tennis and softball and, in her free time, she enjoys volunteering. Most importantly, she looks forward to working with Quarantine Tutors and can’t wait to start tutoring kids!
Jonathan Frantz is a rising 12th grader at John Jay High School in Cross River, New York. Jonathan loves math, science, French, and computer programming. He is a straight-A student, part of the National Honor Society and his school’s chess club, and he is co-president of his school’s computer science club. He is on his school’s varsity alpine ski team as well. Jonathan has tutored 4th and 5th grade students in a variety of subjects in an after-school program, and he enjoys helping people learn, including his three younger siblings. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys writing and performing music. He can’t wait to help his students learn!
Manpreet Kaur is a 11th grade student at Westlake High School. She participates in the math club, English honors society, TechCrew club, Science National Honors Society, and more. She loves helping others especially children and senior citizens. She has a passion for learning and teaching math, science, and social studies. She would love to help with Language Arts as well. Manpreet is looking forward to work with students and can’t wait to start tutoring.
Sam Drescher is a rising junior at Scarsdale High School. He takes all high-level classes, and he has a passion for learning as well as teaching. He has experience tutoring children up through middle school aged, and is happy to help your child with math, history, biology, chemistry, Spanish, and English. Sam runs cross country and track for his school, and he loves to go diving, backpacking, and sailing whenever possible. He is an active member of the speech and debate team, and he is excited to help your child wherever possible.
Carmen Cheatham is in the 10th grade, maintaining a 4.93 weighted GPA at Atholton High School in Columbia, Maryland. Her favorite subjects are science, math, and history, and she has played the double bass for seven years. She enjoys cooking, drawing, swimming, and learning Java. She is a member of her school volleyball team, Black Student Union, student women engineers, Science Olympiad, and math team. She has tutored her peers in the past, and is excited to participate in Quarantine Tutors!
Elysse Mendoza is a rising senior at John F Kennedy High School in Los Angeles, CA. She loves learning and helping others, and is excited to work with young children and help them succeed. She is willing to help in any subject, but has a specific passion for any science and math. She is a very hard-working student and is very diligent and patient. She also loves to volunteer, one specific experience being reading to elementary students every month. Elysse looks forward to and is very excited to be working with you all!
Austin Benedetto is a rising senior at Hackley School in Tarrytown, New York. In school, he is a passionate student who enjoys math and reading new stories. He plays varsity basketball and tennis for his school. He is newer to tutoring but was a peer advisor for younger classes this year. Outside of school, Austin is an NBA fan, and he enjoys anything sports. He is happy to sit and talk with anyone about their return. Austin is excited to help work with students and be a quarantine tutor.
Lucy Wang is a rising sophomore at Atholton High School located in Columbia, Maryland. She is involved in her school’s Science Olympiad team, math team, student women engineers club, and more. Outside of school, she plays violin in several orchestras and enjoys painting in her free time. Lucy often helps teach her friends and classmates, and looks forward to working with you!
Deepa Vatti is a rising junior at Hunter College High School in New York City, New York. She enjoys meeting new people and helping others. She has previously volunteered in summer enrichment programs, soup kitchens, and hospitals. Deepa is passionate about math and science, and loves swimming, dancing, and playing badminton. She is excited to be a quarantine tutor and looks forward to engaging with new students.
Aditya is a rising Junior at Independence High School. He loves math, history, and business. He has also been in band since 6th grade, and he plays with the All-Region Band. He loves helping kids and has over 50 hours of volunteering for kid-focused organizations. Aditya is in the top 10% of his class as well. He looks forward to working with Quarantine Tutors to help kids succeed academically.
Nia Kuriakose is a rising 10th grader at Clarkstown South High School in West Nyack, NY. Nia is hardworking, outgoing, and enthusiastic, as well as ambitious. At school, she participates in HOSA and the music honors society there. Outside of school, she participates in Girl Scouts, student advisory council, and is an active member of her church’s youth group. Her favorite subjects are English and Science, but she is open to assisting younger children in other subjects as well. Nia is very excited to help kids learn and grow!
Sofia is a rising junior attending Yonkers Middle High School. They are the former president and current vice president of their school’s GSA (Gender-Sexuality Alliance) Club and perform in their school’s band. Outside of school, they enjoy researching neuroscience, doing random math problems, and playing one of their 24 instruments. As neuroscientists, they plan to find a permanent cure for each type of epilepsy. Their inspiration for this was the thought of how some children call the hospital their home. They have a general care for children and love spending time with them!
Katherine Melkonian is a rising senior at Williams College studying biology. At Williams she is a member of the Aristocows acapella group, the climbing club and the student orchestra. She also studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Before attending Williams, Katherine went to Schreiber High School in Port Washington, NY. At Schreiber, Katherine rowed on the crew team, played violin in the orchestra and volunteered as a peer tutor. Katherine has experience tutoring and teaching at the K-12 level in all subjects including writing, and she loves science in particular. Katherine is excited to help students embrace learning amid these difficult times.
Jake Rice is a rising senior at Toms River High School South. Jake is the President of the school’s Spanish National Honors Society and has helped the society and school by tutoring students in Spanish. He excels science, math, and computer science in school, and in his free time he enjoys talking with friends and playing guitar.
